CL60 / Steel for light metal pressure diecasting

CL60 is a hot-working tool steel 1.2709 (UHF 3) with a different grain size than CL50 material. This steel is best suited for solving problems with hot spot zones in pressure diecasting moulds because of its premium mechanical strength and its tendency to avoid annealing at elevated temperatures.

Because it is an alloy with a high percentage of Nickel (Ni.) which provides corrosion resistance, it is very well suited for conformal cooling channels and cooling surfaces.

The material can be hardened up to 52-54HRC. Infrared pictures of moulds in operation using LaserCusing-fabricated inserts indicate that these parts run approximately 150șC cooler at least than conventionally-cooled mould parts. Running cooler means less stress and shorter production cycle times. Longer mould life and optimized part material structure can also be expected.
